For the past year or so I’ve been secretly obsessing over this splendid and simply amazing illustrator Astrid Mueller. About a week ago, I finally had enough of just looking on her blog gathered the courage to contact her to request permission to feature her work on my blog…I mean, this illustrator designs for companies like Marie Claire, Swarovski, Diesel and not to mention brides all over the world! You guessed it; she agreed and could not have been any more accommodating.
In the next three weeks I’ll take you behind the scene of the design process and trust me, it’s a delicious treat to see the design come to life.
About Astrid
It was clear from an early love of old Hollywood glamour, her teenage sketchpad filled with 1950s inspired illustrations, and her passion for the style of bygone eras Astrid’s destiny lay in a creative future.
Following a Graphic Designer position at Swarovski, Astrid’s love of travel compelled her to enrich her illustration training at schools around the world. Bags packed, she left her home in Switzerland to study design from masters in Zurich, London, Hamburg, and at New York City’s Parsons.
In 2006, armed with an impressive portfolio and entrepreneurial spirit, Astrid returned to Switzerland to launch her design firm, PotatoMammaDesign. After working with clients including Diesel, Marie Claire, and Swarovski, Astrid’s feminine, elegant work was noticed by leading wedding publications The Knot (New York) and You and Your Wedding (London).
A fortuitous request by a friend to create an illustration for a client’s wedding stationery and wedding cake topper opened the door to a new career for Astrid. Moved and inspired by the experience, Astrid launched Astrid Mueller Exclusive to help brides realize their unique wedding vision through her bespoke illustrations.
Celebrating love with a custom-tailored illustration
Christmas was coming up, and my wonderful copywriter, Jessica Fox, was searching for a really special gift for her parents. Not only that, but their anniversary is January 1st, so it had to be something extra one-of a-kind. Her mum used to model, they both love fashion, and Jessica thought an artwork celebrating their relationship would be a marvelous surprise. So, together with her sister, Jessica decided to commission me for a tailor-made, romantic fashion illustration of their parents as a Christmas/anniversary gift. Why was it perfect? Because they are gloriously style-conscious, elegant, happily in love, and just look so good together!
This is the first inspiration board I put together as reference of their design taste and lifestyle. After speaking with Jessica and learning about her parents and their style, I envisioned to work in this color palette:
Then I created this mood board as reference for their lifestyle and joy of life:
mood board to reflect the couple’s lifestyle.

This morning I came across (via WeddingChicks) the most darling spin on the ever so popular Alice in Wonderland photo shoots/theme weddings. The spin on this theme is the use of the stunning, vivid purple which takes this theme to a level of certain of romance. The bride wore a very romantic gown by Rivini and her bouquet composed of all Orchids is simply exquisite!
To read more about this theme and for more information on the vendors, visit WeddingChicks.
Well, what do you think of this theme? What do you think about the colors that were used? I would love to hear your thoughts.
Hoping to inspire you,

With every event regardless of size, budget, time of year, an invitation is always a key element in the planning process, a key decision to be made; after all the invitation is somewhat a prelude to the event. The invitation sets the tone to the event; it gives your guests an idea of what’s to come and what’s to be expected. Whether you’re requesting the company of your guests to attend a farewell brunch, a bachelorette party, an intimate dinner party, or a wedding, you want the invitation to impress! You want that first impression of the event which you’re planning to make a statement and nothing will make a nicer statement than a beautifully designed invitation.
I have to confess that I’ve had a very healthy obsession with the amazing designers at Praez Occasions! If you’re ever lucky enough to work with those phenomenal designers, you too will develop a healthy obsession with their work!
Praez Occasions full-service design firm, a true atelier with an unconventional flair for the fine details, committed to helping you announce your life’s most precious moments with exceptional quality and sophistication. Their passion is the expression of your unique vision, style, and taste. I love these planning tips from their website which I think most brides can certainly appreciate. Off course you absolutely must visit their site for more information about their scrumptious invitations.
Planning Advice from Praez Occasions.
We employ a collaborative 3-part process that spans approximately 8-10 weeks, during which we analyze your needs, explore custom styling options, and execute the fine details. For best results, we offer the following tips:
• Start out a minimum of 3 months before the event to provide ample time to achieve your desired results
• Share your ideas & “design wish list”
• Provide details and images of the event site
• Submit venue maps & directions, as they can be incorporated into your design
• Submit images of your floral arrangements whenever possible
• Supply any special wording or phrases that you want to use
• Proofread everything carefully! It costs more to fix a mistake than to do it right the first time
We provide digital proofs on every design via Adobe PDF file by email, and make a physical sample available for final approval before commencing production.
Loving everything Praez Occasions,
Violaine Diogene
“Prisoner of Love!” This is my absolutely, without a doubt my favorite invitation. The title sums it all for me. Can you imagine being the invite to receive such an invitation? What would you think about this wedding? I know I would gasp!
Can you imagine getting this as your Save The Date? I’m giggly just thinking about it!
I just love the peacock feathers in this menu card. What a grand way to dress the tables and make a statement. Do allow your eyes to wonder to the little details of the fine fabric and peacock studs.

Years ago, I was privy to working with this designer based out of New York and I was utterly impressed with her attention to detail and passion for designing the most exquisite invitations. The very first collection is one of my personal favorites. I love the exquisite look of this luxurious box invitation which is made with the finest silk and embellished with a simple but stunning crystal closure only to reveal the hand printed custom invitation. With an invitation such as this, it tells your guests “my wedding is not to be missed!”
